Now, that's a vision that would capture the imagination of publics, but it's implementable.

I think one needs to have a non-ideological, factual approach to what works and what doesn't.

And one thing I would always underline is there is one country in Europe that has had most refugee asylum applications in the decade we talk about per capita, and that's not Germany, that's Austria.

And a lot of what other governments have then done in recent years existed in Austria.

It's extremely hard to get citizenship in Austria.

You know, if you are rejected asylum seekers, there are very few benefits.

People don't stay around because it's not very comfortable if you are rejected asylum seeker.

And yet Austria had the highest number of asylum applications and gave per capita most protection.

So I would then ask, why do ministers think that what hasn't worked in Austria will work in the UK?

And I think the answer is they think it's about messaging.

But the strongest message is the image of the boats arriving.

You know, people don't know the details of the fine print of what they will get in France or in Denmark or in Austria and Germany.

But the image of boats arriving and the news, you know, I know people who've been in, you know, Afghans or Gambians who arrive in Germany.

And I interviewed them for the research.

And then I follow them on social media.

And I see the pictures they then show standing in front of the Brandenburg Gate on their Facebook page.

That communicates, I've made it, right?

And this is, of course, what smugglers use.

So whatever the details of the benefits are, Britain will always be a humane society.

You know, that's all people need to know.
