Well, Amazon didn't respond to our request for a comment, but eBay did, and they pointed out that eBay is a marketplace and that air conditioner prices, like other products, are set by individual sellers and not by eBay itself.
It also says it has a price gouging policy in place and that sellers shouldn't try to unreasonably profit from increased demand or decreased supply caused by emergencies or disasters.
Now, air conditioners don't fall into that category.
Even when it's been as hot as it has been in Europe this summer, it's not regarded as an emergency or a disaster.
Well, the manufacturers in China have clearly done pretty well this summer in terms of volume, at least.
They sold everything they could physically get into Europe and they're planning to sell a lot more next year.
Although, interestingly, Madea told us that they made almost nothing on those units that they rushed over to Europe by train.
That was just about getting anything on the shelf at all, having a presence, getting the brand recognised and managing to satisfy at least a few customers.
But a lot of the money is clearly going to whoever managed to get their hands on these machines when they arrived in Europe.
Not the people who designed them or built them or even shipped them.
The people, people on eBay, for example, who snapped them up and then sold them on.
Well, ESA, that's the agency that coordinates Europe's energy regulators, says that annual grid investment across Europe has to double to over $100 billion a year.
