Did and you know it's it's interesting when you look at like this this whole thing happens in nineteen eighty seven.
That is kind of history, you know, but like I happened to be alive at the time and I was in Florida at the time too.
And so it I I'm interviewing people thinking I'm doing this historical stuff and like everyone's younger than me.
And then I was like, Oh, this is really bad.
But yeah, I'm used to doing like the the pre civil rights era, forties and fifties stuff.
just dealing with documents, I never get to really talk to people.
And I think it was just a matter of like
You know, once I'd met Leo and heard him talk and and heard him like describe the these moments in his life that are just so dramatic and so horrible, really, I knew that his voice was something that was just
Very persuasive and powerful.
And I just got got to thinking about like, well it's I I these are gonna not be great in the quote marks on the page.
Like you gotta hear his voice crack, that Boston accent, you know, this fish out of water coming to Florida and all of a sudden finds himself accused of a murder that he didn't commit.
It was just really compelling and I and I just thought to myself I'd started listening to some podcasts and I thought maybe there's a way to do this as a podcast so that other people can hear what I just heard.

That was one of the things like when I go into these like oral history archives and just start listening the interviews with the people.
You know, maybe the interviews were done in the sixties, decades after the event that I'm covering, but then just to hear those voices of those people, it was just really powerful, even though it was like twenty-something years removed.
But there was still this urgency um that you couldn't detect in the voice.
And I I was really picking that up with Leo and some of the some of his friends and witnesses that were
we were talking to, you could just hear their voices and and just sort of hear the urgency about this.
It was something I just entertained.
