She said, well, there's a famous writer with this name and it has to be her because it's an unusual name.

And the name was Charmian Clift.

Now, I didn't know who Charmian Clift was.

But we're in Mossman, which is where she used to live, and the Mossman bookshop had a whole bunch of books by Charmian.

And the most amazing thing was to go over to this bookshop and see on the back of one of those books a photo that was dead set, my mother.

And my sister and I, like our eyes were like dinner plates.

Just, oh, wow.

There is nothing to argue about here.

This is absolutely our grandmother.

Absolutely.

My first thought was everything makes sense.

I make sense.

Because there was nothing... Mum and Dad are beautiful and now I know how extraordinary they are.

Now I can really see...

Like my genealogy, I can really see how my personality does come from both of them.

But, well, you know, when I was growing up, I was so odd and they just seemed normal, though they really weren't.

But to find out that I had this grandmother who was actually larger than life and extraordinary in ways that my sort of mythically oriented brain could recognise and relate to and

It made a part of me make sense.

The interesting thing for me now is that the egg that made me grew inside my mum when she was growing inside Charmian because a fetus grows all its own eggs, doesn't it?

So my very first little spark of consciousness, the half of me that's an egg, actually grew inside Charmian.
