And yeah, and I...

I wanted to inhale the story.

I'm six years old and this story has just broken me open.

And I wanted the story so much that I would tear little bits of paper from the corners and eat them.

It was like I wanted to eat the story.

I actually did.

I wanted to eat the story.

And I think I did because...

The story of The Jungle Book is still alive in me and all of those characters are still not just my friends but my allies and they've been with me now for almost 50 years.

The eating of the books didn't stop with The Jungle Book.

Let me tell you, paper tastes very different.

It tastes very different these days.

Old paper, I love the taste of old paper, except when it's a bit mouldy, I don't like that.

And it really was because you wanted to take those stories into your body, consume them.

Yeah, I'd like...

I don't... I've never been diagnosed with anything and I'm kind of happy with that, but I suspect if, you know, I got sat down in front of somebody who knew what they were doing, I'd have many letters after my name.

And I think that, like, on the spectrum of synesthesia, I'm along that spectrum.

So for me...

any sense I actually experience on many levels.

And so for me, reading is, it isn't just reading and, oh, here's a story.
