We're one of the bottom funded states when it comes to public education in the whole country.
I think bottom last I knew it was bottom three.
So that is the biggest reason why our schools are shutting down.
And so to think that where a lot of our money is going is these vendor contracts for nonsense that we don't need is really insulting.
And this is an observation that
goes beyond partisanship.
I had a press conference for a bill that I filed this year to do, and I think, Chuck, maybe you know this, but help me remember if you can, to do zero-based budgeting.
That was associated with the big, maybe in the 90s, maybe it was Newt Gingrich, I don't remember who, but it was a big Republican policy approach to wipe the slate clean in spending and then build
what's important, prioritize.
And here it fits so well, I believe, because we've had 30 years of one party in control.
And so there's been no accountability when it comes to our spending.
There is so much grift that is now baked into the system that we just need a fresh start.
So I filed a bill to do that with our education dollars at the state level.
And I was surrounded only by mothers who had voted for Trump.
right?
They were MAGA moms who understand that our money is being wasted because of these vendor contracts with Greg Abbott's friends.
And they stood side by side with me at a press conference at the Capitol in support.
These were also allies that I had made in this voucher fight, which is one big grift, right?
Greg Abbott
in 2023, ended up pursuing vouchers for the first time ever.
