I worked with every law enforcement agency in Washington, D.C.
And you can't swing a cat in D.C.
without hitting some member of the FBI, the ATF, the DEA, the Park Police, the Capitol Police, the Secret Service Uniform Division, the U.S.
Marshal Service, Postal Police, Amtrak Police, Metro Police.
You get the point.
A whole lot of police.
in Washington, D.C.
And the overwhelming majority of them, in my experience, Don, are protect and serve kind of people.
They do their job honorably.
But what I have also seen in excessive force cases, some of which I handled as a prosecutor,
is once that adrenaline gets flowing, even in the most well-trained, thoughtful, level-headed police officer, it's very hard to control that adrenaline surge.
So if you are being taken into custody and you start fighting, because that is also a protester's natural reaction, an adrenaline surge.
You have to try to control it.
And that will let the police officers, the good ones, control what they're doing, not engage in excessive force.
And then let the system take care of it, because the system from the inside, I can tell you, is not looking to prosecute protesters.
We may be looking to prosecute people who intentionally assault protesters.

So peaceful is the word for the day tomorrow.
