When you brag about a 98% conviction rate, that means you're not doing your job because you're not taking the tough cases to trial.
They either kick it to the states or they try to wrap it up in a pre-indictment bow by giving a very generous plea offer, or they don't indict it.
You can investigate something in the grand jury and say, I don't think the evidence is strong enough.
I don't know that I have the prospect of a conviction at trial, so I'm just not going to indict.
So unfortunately, that's something I railed against inside DOJ for a very long time.
Hey, Don, can I pick up on Katie's great point about John Bolton's book?
Because I think there is actually a parallel in recent history to what is going on with John Bolton right now.
The last thing I want to do is give the Trump administration or Kash Patel's FBI any credit for doing things right.
But remember General David Petraeus, who, when he left military service, became the director of the FBI, and thereafter he wrote a book.
And what he did, and we know because he pleaded guilty to it, was he mishandled classified information.
He shared it with his editor, who also happened to be his paramour.
And he pleaded guilty to mishandling classified materials.
And it was a misdemeanor, and he got two years of probation.
But he was held accountable for his mishandling of classified material.
So might we be seeing a parallel here with John Bolton mishandling classified materials as part of whatever he put in his book, which I think is the room where it happened?
And maybe that's why they're going after him.
So I don't want to suggest that there is no there there when it comes to whatever the search warrant, you know, uncovers by way of Bolton's conduct.
But, you know, I will be convinced if there's real serious crime.
