They seem to be doing quite well.
I read all the English papers.
I read the Times and the Mail and the Guardian and the Telegraph.
And they seem to be doing fine.
British magazines, the oldie, Private Eye, the shelter magazines, all seem to, like 2008, never happen.
They seem all very successful.
It makes me really happy.
Well, there's a lot of friends who I miss, yes.
Yes, and I'm doing a documentary on him for HBO with John Batzik.
He was an iconoclast, to put it mildly.
Christopher was the beating sort of moral soul of the magazine.
I'd hired him from, he'd been writing for left-wing magazines like The Nation.
I hired him away from Harper's Magazine.
He was the first person I hired at Vanity Fair.
And he would do anything.
We'd send him off to, like, you know, wretched republics.
He'd return with great stories.
He was fearless, absolutely fearless.
He underwent waterboarding during the Bush administration.
