Yeah, we, you know, over the course of the book, one of the main agencies that kind of negotiates our record access to the point where every single every single request that we receive at the CCRV needs to go through another internal affairs officer.
We grew pretty disillusioned with the effectiveness of internal affairs.
Honestly, over the course of when 2020 happened, over the course of the protests, we were expecting this to be a larger part of the conversation that never seemed to materialize.
But step one would be to civilianize or get rid of internal affairs.
think first it's bad politics and you know mac is mac and i are fluent in the framework of abolition and we uh are incredibly sympathetic and empathetic to it and we think that unfortunately that we're about to come up in five years since george floyd and and kind of the
height of that entering the american consciousness and the way that america metabolized that and rejected it and now it's being used uh sort of against all parties involved it showed the the danger of the framing of the way that it was presented to america america's consumer society and most consumers i think if you say defund the police they're thinking you're taking away an option on my phone you're giving me one less product that does not make me feel good
We hopefully, over the course of the six proposals that we have at the end of the book, show a new path that we think incorporates a lot of the perspectives from all stakeholders right now.
I think that it starts to realizing that policing is ultimately.
democratic.
And it's not a way that I think we are brought up or ever taught to learn about it.
But what we found over the course of, you know, creating this book is realizing how much this is the center of our democracy.
If you're concerned about what's happening at the federal level, the state level, you can get involved at the local level.
And right now, there's never been a more important time to learn how policing works at the local level, and how police accountability works at the local level.
