What we've seen over the past few months indeed is that Gulf countries have very different views of Iran. matched

Some want to try and reconcile with it now, others think it's a threat and they're focused on trying to contain it, and they don't trust one another. matched

We've seen even their air defenses over the past few months have not been properly integrated despite years and years of pleas from the Americans. matched

Each of the Gulf countries is probably too small. matched

small and too weak to confront Iran on its own. matched

So this should be a moment where you would think the Gulf gets together and comes up with a unified position and tries to harden its defenses vis-a-vis Iran. matched

But if passed this prologue here, I think it may end up deepening those divisions and we'll see each Gulf country going its own way. matched

We know only a couple of details of what is actually in this agreement.

Greg Carlstrom is a Middle East correspondent for The Economist.

It is meant to extend the ceasefire across the region, including in Lebanon, and it is meant to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within thirty days.

Beyond that, the details are sketchy and there is a more comprehensive agreement that America and Iran will still need to negotiate.

It was.

We saw another exchange of fire between Hezbollah and Israel over the weekend.

Hezbollah firing drones into northern Israel, and then Israel, which had threatened to retaliate for such attacks by bombing Beirut, the Lebanese capital, made good on those threats, did so later in the day on Sunday, killing at least three people.

And then at that point, Iran threatened to

to carry out missile strikes against Israel, which is something it had vowed to do whenever Israel bombed Beirut.

So it looked like we were stuck in the same sort of cycle that we were in the previous weekend.
