So maybe we're not waking up at six in the morning because we don't have to beat traffic.
But does there still need to be some level of predictability?
So maybe bedtime during the year when their school is eight o'clock, depending on how old your kids are.
Can you then still say, you know, it is the holidays, but you can't stay up all night.
You have to be asleep by, oh, I don't know,
10 o'clock or if it is a weekend, you may stay up until 11 o'clock.
So even though you kind of loosen the schedule a little bit, acknowledging that it is rest time, is there still a need for it to be predictable?
Do kids require predictability and that safety all the time, even when they're not at school?
It also sounds as though it's also helping kids, I guess, regulate themselves to the point you just made that, you know, if kids had their way, they would kind of, you know, stay up quite late, maybe have like a lot more ice cream than they're allowed to, you know,
Because they're kind of just like hedonists in that way.
And so it's also just a way to try, I guess, help your kids regulate their feelings.
Because if they don't sleep, they'll be grouchy the next morning.
They won't feel as energetic.
They might feel a bit sad, you know, depending on the temperament of the child.
They might eat more because they're a little bit sad.
So it's also just trying to help kids, I guess, learn how to regulate themselves and maybe in some ways also self-soothe by ensuring that they get enough sleep, drink enough water, get enough outside time, you know, just having kind of a balanced, varied life.
Absolutely.
I was reading a piece that spoke about anchoring routines.
So these are the things that are part of the routine that are quite important just for allowing kids to know when the big things are happening.
And it seems that mealtimes, particularly dinner and bedtime, are considered those anchoring routines that are just so fundamental.
