I have a weird brain glitch because if again, my mom is from Delaware. podcast-host

My dad is from Rhode Island by Florida. podcast-host

I grew up as a young child exclusively hearing it called hoagie. podcast-host

It was a hoagie. podcast-host

My mom would be like, We're having hoagies and it would be a long piece of bread with sandwich stuff in it. podcast-host

When I joined the wider world when I went to school, they called them subs. podcast-host

And my little elastic five, six-year-old brain went, subs, hoagies, interchangeable, fine. podcast-host

And then I learned that I got the eyebrow of skepticism from my classmates when I called it a hoagie. podcast-host

So I'd stopped. podcast-host

I see it there were signs, okay? podcast-host

There were signs I could have been diagnosed podcast-host

anyway, when I look at that, I say hoagey and then immediately autocorrect in my brain, so my mouth says sub. podcast-host

So I had no idea how to answer that question because the word I think is hoagie and I self-correct to sub because of where I podcast-host

Um I switched to cause I called them sneakers, but again, that is they call them tennis shoes here. podcast-host

And again, that's a result of my parents carried their dialect with them because they were brought here by the military. podcast-host

And if you've ever lived on a military base, it becomes this really insular experience where a lot of regional dialects and practices are podcast-host

better preserved, weirdly, as in no one bats an eyelash at something doing something way out of regional expectation because they're all from different regions. podcast-host
