According to his adopted father, David Rossi, he just wouldn't listen in school.

David Rossi is interviewed in the fantastic Channel 4 documentary on this story, The Man Who Came Back From The Dead, and he says that young Nicholas was born evil.
Not long after this incident in 1999, Nicholas was put into care.
At first, a few psychiatric hospitals and then later as a ward of DCYF.
DCYF is the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
And for Nicholas Rossi, it later became public enemy number one.
He was on what was called a night-to-night programme.
Which sounds horrific.
It essentially meant that he would sleep somewhere different every night, usually any sofa or carry cot going in the neighbourhood, and then spent entire days being kept at the DCYF office with nothing to do.
But according to Rossi, boredom was the least of his worries.
Wash your mouth out calling that the past, please.
And we asked you how you could make it worse, and this is the first thing that popped into my head, which just shows what this job has done to me.
Nicholas said that he was frequently beaten, cut, abandoned, out in the cold, and sexually assaulted.
He later laid the blame squarely at the door of the DCYF for failing to ensure his safety.
Nope.
