You know, when I was growing up it was just those stereotypes of people that needed to be very clean and really that's not me, you can ask my wife, but...
It's not about that.
But when I was very young, I would feel so when I was six years old, I started feeling guilty for no reason, like obsessively guilty.
And I would confess to things that I was worried that I could do.
which is a very strange thing to have a child do, I feel, for my parents.
I would confess then to things that I hadn't done at school just because I didn't like the feeling of maybe I did do it while I was asleep or maybe I just can't remember that I did it.
And so I would sort of confess to things that I didn't do just to kind of
ease this uh nagging guilt that I would just feel and then when I was late when I was older about 15 there was a history class that I that I did at school where we learned about the bubonic plague and I became quite convinced that I had it and so I would just check my body constantly and
even if it's actually quite treatable, bubonic plague now, but that didn't stop the checking.
So it's this idea of, like, checking and confession and then some other strange sensory symptoms, like, for example, the simplest one, which I actually think a lot of people feel is, you know, if you walk into a wall on one side, I need to –
feel the same pressure on the other side and just even it up.
So some of them are quite fun, but the intrusive thoughts are very overwhelming and horrible.
And so I work constantly just to make sure that I'm dealing with them without
I don't know, confessing to a crime I didn't commit or something.
Yeah, I'm unlikely to commit a crime because I'm such a confessor.
Yep.
It's tremendously effective.
It's not the be all and end all, you know, that allows me to do all the other things that are helpful.
If I'm in an OCD spiral, I can't
get up and exercise.
