I went to a bunch of professors at my college and I was like, can I do this as some kind of independent study?
All of them kind of said, no, you've never taken even an English class here.
So I wrote it on my own.
And I think I just found my thing.
I just loved doing it, and I just felt like I was good at it.
I wrote an entire novel my senior year of college.

And once I had that, I never let go of it.
I started to write more.

I showed it to a lot of people at the time, and I tried getting it published, but it wasn't any good.
Even if it's good, you know how hard it is to get something published.
When I first started, and that year, this is what we're talking about now in the 1980s.
Just getting published was a major accomplishment.
