The hard part about Airbnb is not how can I make an app that lists houses and lets you look at them.
Actually, if you tell an AI to make an Airbnb clone, it can do it in about 10 minutes.
It's extremely trivial to create something that looks like Airbnb.
The hard part about Airbnb is, again, the logistics, which is that you are going to a house.
You are going to stay in that house.
That house had better be safe.
had better be what it purports to be, had better actually deliver the place that I'm staying and not double book it with somebody else.
So when I show up, someone's already in there, right?
If that happens even once, much less twice, I'm out forever.
I'm never coming back.
I'm not even gonna try this again because that's the scariest shit I've ever heard.
This kind of stuff where it's freestanding software, that all of the state for that software is yours, is your state, it's hosted locally, those are the businesses that are most threatened by AI.
If Airbnb's code got leaked, who cares?
Who's on Airbnb because of the wonderful code they wrote?
Who's not building an Airbnb competitor because they don't know how to write the code?
So when you think about it this way, it suddenly becomes very obvious the difference between the businesses who would really be impaired by somebody going and writing a clone and the businesses that, if their code base leaked, whatever.
Who cares?
Boo-hoo.
It's very hard to say.
I know.
