So there was a lot of pressure to join the race, but matched

there are many people who have that skill set that I don't have. matched

I've never run for office, but that position I have as somebody who has been extraordinarily well-trained in what I do in research, people forget this, but that was actually what I was known for was my research. matched

And the incredible training I've had to enable me to convey that research to people who don't otherwise do it, in order to put me in that Senate race... matched

you would lose the skills that I do have and that I actually think are upstream from politics rather than downstream. matched

And to me, it was just never a question that I love the state of Maine and I love our political system, but matched

To me, it just was never a fit. matched

What we have seen so far is really interesting because people who are still MAGA are saying horrible things. matched

And it's always worth remembering that Maine has a long history of radical reactionary politics. matched

But those people who were MAGA are really still MAGA and really cheering on the people matched

policies of the Trump administration without any sense that, you know, what I keep hammering on is once you have said that there are certain people in this country who are not covered by the rule of law matched

It's only a question of time until you get included in that. matched

You don't get to say those people aren't included, but all these other people are because once you've admitted the principle, then anybody is game. matched

And I learned that from Abraham Lincoln, that literally that's where I learned that concept. matched

And he was right. matched

That's why he made the arguments he did. matched

And people, even virulent racists in the North, came around to back him politically because they got it. matched

They might not have liked Black Americans, but they understood that once you gave up that principle, people were going to come for them as well. matched

So you see that, but you are also seeing the other side of, I suspect, people anywhere coming out and saying, these were our neighbors. matched

And that's the same impulse that forced an Aryan compound in Maine to give up a year or so ago because they thought because Maine is such a white state, they'd be welcome here, and they weren't. matched
