And, you know, the fact that we didn't send people off to, that's the one person that's actually, you know, per the Geneva standards committed, you know, a proper war crime.
Incredible people.
And you can imagine, this is what I asked you beforehand, where are we better as a country out of any of this, you know?
You have a family, you know, and there's two other families, you know, where this guy, Ben Robert Smith, was literally sent to be the first person in the team to fly out to that patrol base when Hekmatullah murdered three Australians in cold blood while they were playing cards.
And it was a tactical decision by his squadron commander to send Australia's most decorated soldier out there to a group of three-hour-hour guys and their support staff who had just had their mates murdered.
This is my issue, and I said this on Carl's podcast.
There are so many good stories that are not coming out of Afghanistan because the media is stuck on this cycle of just telling the bad stories.
There are stories of inspiration, left, right, and center, that have come from some of the most tragic circumstances.
myself and people like you know scotty rider we're talking about beforehand you know i've had enough confidence to write books about it there are so many soldiers we've had anzac day since we last spoke you know who have incredible stories and are still too afraid
to write and publish their stories when I tell them they need to get them out because of the current climate here in Australia.
They're worried, my former soldiers are worried that it might open them up to the Office of the Special Investigator turning up at their house while their kids are having breakfast type stuff.
That's where we're at and that's where we need to help, you know, continue to turn this tide so that the stories that can inspire Australia, the stories that inspire people like you and I to join the military, you know,
we grew up around some of these incredible stories to come out again because there's a whole generation of inspiration drawn from life or death not celebrating war but celebrating the achievements and the true testing of human spirit that are not coming out and i think that's a mission for the veterans of you and my era mate to do what we can to create an environment where
People don't have to understand war.
They don't have to agree with war.
I think you and I don't agree with war, period.
War only happens when politicians fail, when diplomacy fails.
They should be the first ones going.
But it's one of the only truly incredible environments where the true fiber of humans and teamwork and values and all the rest get exposed.
And there's so much we can draw from that, particularly those who've lived it.
