And some of them are childless by circumstance.
They wish they could have, but they didn't meet a partner or they struggled with infertility.
But others made a conscious choice.
They had to raise younger siblings, or they were caretaking for a father or a grandmother, as in your case, or they felt that maybe they couldn't do this without their moms.
They felt that they didn't have the maternal instinct because they hadn't been raised by a mother, and so they made a choice not to have children.
So we have a breakout room and an online chat, actually, in our online community called Childless by Circumstance or Choice, where women talk about this.
That's fascinating.

I think emotionally and somatically, I was not ready for what happened.
And I don't know that I could have been in advance.
It's a form of grief that I call new old grief, which is when an old loss shows up in your life in a completely new way.
And that's what happened when my oldest daughter, my first child, was born.
I thought I was mentally prepared.
I thought, okay, there won't be a mom to help me.
I'll set up help after she comes.
I put together a team.
I was in a mom's baby yoga group, and so all the moms had a play group together.
I felt like I had good support.
But really, nothing prepared me for bringing my daughter home and looking at her and the way that I missed my mom.
