Oh, that's so true.

Do you feel that way?

Absolutely.

We call it crossing the silent threshold in the mother, crossing the silent threshold because the culture does not acknowledge what a big deal it is to become older than your parent.

Now, you know,

We're lucky when we become older than our parent, right?

Our parent was because that means we've lived longer and hopefully long, full lives.

But some of the women I work with, their mom were in their 30s or their 40s when they died.

Like I said, my mom was 42.

So 41, I was anxious.

I was worried I might get diagnosed with breast cancer at the same age as my mom.

This is a same-sex parent loss fear.

Health anxiety, very, very common.

42 was very weird, because I thought, wow, it's like I was looking sideways at my mom.

Me too.

She's not older and wiser anymore.

She knows as much as I do.

But 43 was the really funky year, because I thought, wow, I'm older than my mom.

And she can't be a role model for me in the years ahead anymore, even like she still could at 41.

And I very much felt like I was stepping into uncharted territory.
