So he never did get his signed book for years afterwards until I managed to get word to him.

And I did get a signed copy to him and it turned out it was my very last signed first edition.

So there you go.

I mean, Black and Blue, I remember the week it was published, there was a review of it in The Times.

And the reviewer said, I don't think I'll read a better crime novel all year.

That was in January.

Come November of that year, it won the Gold Dagger Award for the best crime novel.

And suddenly my publishers were interested.
