And then, in fact, the Dublin event was magical.
It was fantastic.
There were people in the audience crying because they'd never heard Van Morrison speak at length before.
He had that reputation of being quite taciturn on stage.
And then he did a full band show after that.
Thrawn, you might almost say.

But it was great.
And we'd get different people coming on.
We had Edna O'Brien in London came and read some of his lyrics out.
We had Michael Longley, I think, did Dublin and Belfast and read some of Van's lyrics.
So I was getting to hang around with all these wonderful writers and wonderful people.
And backstage, Van was fantastic.
And I'd been a fan for a while.

Actually quite a late adoptee, I suppose, because I was living in London with my wife, Miranda, and she was working for the civil service and I was working on a magazine and I started having panic attacks.
