And according to FBI, one con artist claimed that he was a pilot and had delivered relief supplies to the victims of the hurricane.

In another case, residents in Portland claimed that they were victims of the hurricane just to get government relief money.

The holidays and other big events like

COVID-19 are rife with charity scams.

The internet has helped charity scams to explode, especially with the popularization of GoFundMe.

The charitable website is rife with scams of people claiming to have ailments and financial problems.

Oh my God, people are using GoFundMe to grift hundreds of dollars off of their loved ones.

Oh my God, Chelsea, I started this episode by telling you that I'm not a card-carrying member of the cult of charity scams, but I am now realizing that I have donated to so many GoFundMes that followers of mine on Instagram have DM'd me about saying it was like their loved one or their neighbor.

And I have very rarely vetted the story because I have just immediately felt moved to action.

So this might be the quickest I've ever switched up on being a member of a cult in my life.
