Much harder to regulate, much like an MLM.
It's actually a lot like an MLM, but a lot worse because much like multi-level marketing companies are really difficult to enforce any kind of regulation against them via the Better Business Bureau or the FTC because they're not like a lot of the time actual licensed businesses.
They're just like random girlies.
And similarly, conversion therapy exists in a very weird legal gray area because it is sometimes being practiced by therapists and sometimes not.
It can sometimes be prosecuted as consumer fraud because it's, duh, ineffective horseshit.
But, and this is the catch, those bans only apply to those licensed professionals.
They don't cover religious leaders, coaches, other non-licensed providers, bootleggers, which is like a huge loophole.
And honestly, most of the people teaching this kind of shit.
As we'll talk about later, the DIY side of conversion therapy and some of the more culturally less clinical forms of conversion therapy are really what seems to be doing a majority of the harm nowadays.
And that is the sect of this cult that is the most difficult to legally retaliate against, which is obviously terrible.
Even in places where conversion therapy is technically banned, thousands of young people are still being subjected to it, often through religious or community channels.
And that's what makes it so difficult to track and regulate.
Slips outside the boundaries of what the law can easily touch.
