He judged a slam dunk contest at a Northwestern basketball game.

He did color commentary on the Illinois high school state championship game on Sports Channel, I think was the RSN back then.

So.

He did more normal stuff.

He was more accessible.

And then he got to this level of fame that was just Beatles level, right?

You're right, Colin.

He couldn't go out of his hotel room on the road.

He became trapped and imprisoned by his fame.

And there's a great passage in The Last Dance when he talks about what that became.

So, you know, I remember the before and the after.

I don't think of him as completely inaccessible because there was a time when I first got to Chicago, even though that was post-1991, I wasn't covering the Bulls yet, but I could still go up to a shoot-around or practice and ask Michael Jordan a question.

I was covering college basketball.

I remember I wanted to ask him about the shot he made in New Orleans when he was in North Carolina as a freshman to win a championship.

So I could go up and ask him that question.

And you could go up to him and talk to him.

So there was that.
