That doesn't necessarily mean they're bad people.
You know, one of the themes we talked about earlier in the season, I think when you talked to, forgive me, I can't remember his name, but it's the guy, we didn't have his voice on the podcast, but we refer to him as the cowboy.
Man, I can't remember off the top of my head, but it was a guy that mentioned Mark Johnson.
It kind of comes back to me with cowboy culture and the idea that these are hard people but not bad people.
And it's how blurry that line can be.
They may be hard to communicate with.
You may not understand where they come from.
You may not understand the hardness behind them or the gruffness.
outer shell that they have um but that doesn't necessarily mean that it goes all the way to the core it doesn't necessarily mean that they're bad people um and and that's something that's been so interesting hearing these character witnesses to me about specifically about derrick versus mark johnson it seems like a very common
perception of Derek was that he was a hard kid gifted in a lot of ways but certainly came up rough rough around the edges you know just kind of his background the person that he was the environment that he was in he just kind of had to be who he was to kind of make it through that however
he, he never, I hear over and over, he doesn't strike anybody as a, as a, as a bad kid, you know, or a bad dude at the time, you know, it's always, it, it, it seems to always come back to, man, he, he was respectful.
He knew what he was doing, you know, um,
And that's also a great point.
My initial gut reaction to that point would be, man, that's quite a con artist.
Do you know what I mean?
Man, there's some serious calculation there.
versus it's really, man, I can't deny it.
We've kind of heard it over and over from a lot of people, the sharp contrast between how that hardness goes to the core of Derek Sam versus how it goes to the core of Mark Johnson.
And we heard it in this episode, man.
And gosh, what a damning statement to make that if I could label any of them as a serial killer,
