As you think about the technology, it's in contact with the glucose molecule under the skin.
So we call it subcutaneous.
It's in that zone right under your skin, and it's actually measuring the concentration of glucose in the body.
And why that's so important is for someone who's trying to manage diabetes, it's all about managing glucose and trying to keep it in a normal range.
Those of us that don't have diabetes, our pancreas works as normal.
We produce insulin, and that insulin is a hormone that helps us regulate our glucose.
People with diabetes either type 1 or type 2 for different reasons, but their bodies either don't make insulin or don't process it as efficiently.
And so they're always in an effort to manage their glucose.
They need to know what their glucose is.
And historically, before continuous glucose monitors existed...
It was all about finger sticks.
You'd poke your fingers, squeeze their blood onto a test strip, measure it, and you got a single reading.
There was issues with accuracy on that.
Your hands had to be super clean, but it also didn't give you a perspective of how glucose is changing.
And one of the things that's really interesting, when someone wears a CGM for the first time,
is they don't actually realize until they wear that CGM how much their glucose actually changes throughout the day and how much different foods can have an impact.
You know, we often, we eat, our glucose goes up a little bit, you know, pancreas takes over.
But with someone with diabetes, the difference between different food choices can be very dramatic in their glucose.
And so the CGM is really a tool that teaches them in real time about what's going on.
