He's the hero, so he can't do anything that's really wrong that would get her seriously pissed off.
Because if it was like, well, I was fucking some whore when I was on leave and this fell out of her purse, then that's an issue.
But they can't.
They can never do that.
So he has to not have a real reason, and then she has to have an unreasonable reaction to his not real reason.
