And I would think that Bulls are probably in the same boat.

You've got quite a few Boc guys now that go away and they defend a certain way.

And I mean, I've worked at the Bulls.

I think the Bulls are trying really hard with Jean-Tite and any defensive coaches we've had to try and almost copy the South African way because we know it works.

And when you consider a guy like Vili and Kanan are caught on the outside,

uh they defend they defend for south africa in those channels and yet they don't make those same mistakes so you know i don't think it's just a a coaching thing or a philosophy kind of thing it's maybe that you know that they they get found wanting because they don't aid as much in the box set up as they do you know and i know it sounds but they why would canaan be ended why does canaan not do that for the box and why does villi not do that for the box when he's defending with a

You know, so it is a concern for the Bulls because I think they caught between a rock and a hard place from a guy who coached there.

I think there is no other way to defend other than closing time and space.

And everyone talks about blitz and rush and all that sort of stuff.

I mean, the simple value of defence is creating less time and space for the attack and getting into their space to make sure that you test their skill levels.

But saying that, Bernard, there are times where they have five and you have three and you can't then switch that off.

You've got to then find another way to get them to an edge.

And I mean, that's never changed since you've played rugby as well.

So I don't believe the bulls are... I mean, I think all South African sides are stuck in between.

And we don't have the same players for long periods of time.

I mean, that's one of the bugbears I've said to you as a provincial coach, is a lot of them are away on national duty.

A lot of them, when they get to 24, 25, go to overseas-based clubs.

You know, that whole theory last week I spoke about Mertens and Marshall and, you know, and Ellis and Carter and Gregan and Larkham.

You know, we don't seem to have 150 games or 100 games together as a halfback combination.

And that in itself lends to defensive frailties and defensive misreads and just cohesion generally both on attack and defence.
