But uh yes, you sang uh Forever Young by Bob Dylan around three years ago, and then Alf uh then Eric.
uh jokingly started singing this song and so now it's about time to fulfill Eric's request.
Um, well I think we'll be today we'll be talking about how it might not be possible to live forever.
Um and I mean also it was German day in Golden Gate Park yesterday.
So Oh it was nineteen eighties German synth pop sounds great.
Yeah.
Um, so I guess just to start I mean, prognosis in general is kind of a term for predicted course of disease.
And I think people commonly use it to refer to an individual's life expectancy or how long the person has um to live.
And um i I think this is a really difficult topic to talk about with um patients and
Oftentimes, I mean, patients and clinicians should be appropriately skeptical about our ability to predict the future and an individual's life expectancy can change dramatically.
But but we know from previous studies that that a lot of older adults actually want this information, but might not be feel comfortable bringing it up.
And really providing these estimates of how long a person has to live affects a lot of the decisions we have to make clinically.
Um, so if you can think about
certain decisions um like continuing to screen for for for certain cancers like colon cancer or breast cancer, or how um strict you should control um diabetes or blood pressures.
We know that um a lot of times with cancer screening, you don't actually get um benefits uh right away, and it can cause potential harms right away.
