Yeah, and there are always complex reasons for why dereliction and vacancy arises.

But there are also reasons why local authorities, or sorry, there are also examples of local authorities not doing what they should be doing.

And in fairness, I mean, I listened very carefully to what Janet said there.

I mean, she did acknowledge that there has been investment in local authorities in terms of their derelict sites,

uh sections and like dublin city council i i can say i've seen an improvement in terms of if if people contact me and they see a property and they'll go out they'll search it they'll try and get it on the register i'm sure they could do a lot more but there are other local authorities which have gotten similar levels of investment where that hasn't taken place and that's the stick

But the carrot, I mean, when Janet talks about rhetoric, I mean, in truth, like that's just not fair on any assessment of what we did in the last budget in terms of increasing the grants available for vacancy, increasing the grants available for dereliction over the shop grants, the SPV that we're doing for Dublin city centre.

And now we're forcing the revenue to collect these taxes.

It's clearly substantive policy measures, but now what we want to see is delivery and implementation.

And I think it is incumbent on elected members in local authorities to put pressure on their managers to ask, you know, where are those properties?

Because, you know, I'm a TD, but as a councillor, it's the same way.

We're all getting these messages from constituents saying there's a property around the corner.

Why isn't it on the register?

And why isn't the levy being imposed on that?

So it's a source of great frustration for the population at large.

Yeah, I mean, look, I take Janet's point about, you know, we could go even further.

But I mean, the reality is, is that on the existing definition of what constitutes derelict, there are some local authorities who are doing this better than others.

So that evidence in and of itself demonstrates that there are properties out there that are not being put on site registers because some local authorities are not deploying sufficient resources, responding quickly enough

to constituents who raise these properties.

Could we go further and is there other elements of dereliction and vacancy?

Perhaps, but in the first instance, let's get those properties that meet the current definition on the register and let's get revenue responsible for chasing those tax and let's get those properties turned into homes for people to live in.
