The UK actually is widely seen now around the world as having one of the smartest safety research teams.
We're putting quite a lot of money into researching AI safety.
We have a really good AI safety institute.
We have several of the universities have pretty amazing departments.
Whether or not the actual MPs, like the lawmakers, the people that sit and debate the laws know enough about this, that's slightly different.
But there's expertise out there.
My slight worry is that
it feels like the government has made a decision to really go all in on this.
Like, this is our route to economic growth.
We're struggling.
We need growth at all costs.
All the big companies keep saying that AI is the way we're all going to grow and get more productive, so we're just going to go all in.

But I think the public mood about AI has changed quite a lot even since then.
People are way more skeptical about this, which is good.
It's totally necessary.
