The corn murals that had showed little scenes from a picturesque and heavily sanitized version of America's past have also changed.

Now they show American soldiers descending on a Native American village.

Violence so brutal and savage that the only way that America could look itself in the mirror was to project that word onto their victims.

The next mural is of a woman running barefoot from slave catchers.

Her face, terrified but determined, has none of the blurriness of Rosie the Riveter.

Here the ears of corn have been made to form something photorealistic.

Or even more than that.

A scene so real that it almost seems to move.

Maybe is moving.

Just a little.
