He's been with the organization before as an assistant coach.
Then he went under Todd McClellan.
Then he was under Barry Trotz and then Todd McClellan.
He's had...
you know, three pretty remarkable coaches in those three that he sort of learned under.
And then he had his own stint in Los Angeles for a couple of years, which was fairly unremarkable.
In fact, probably was most noted by that coaching challenge in the Edmonton series that kind of turned that series around a couple of years ago in favor of the Oilers.
It was a failed coaching challenge by Jim Hiller that a lot of, you know, he took a lot of criticism for.
So yeah, this came out of left field guys and,
You know, it's going to have to be a wait-and-see approach about how he does here in Toronto, but certainly it wasn't someone that had been talked about or was on pretty much anyone's radar, so this was a bit of a surprise today for sure.
Yeah, and you know what?
John Chayka will hold a news conference, I imagine.
Well, obviously they will, and that'll be really interesting.
And maybe, you know, the timing...
Maybe they were just really interested in having someone in place ahead of next week's draft.
And I'm not saying they just rushed to judgment because, as you said, they took their time, they did their due diligence.
But maybe they just sort of really felt this is our best candidate and we need to proceed.
And I don't know what would have put Jim Hiller through.
Again, he does have some background with the organization.
There is some familiarity.
