I have approached it that way and I filter every story through it in some way.
People pitch me to your point about there used to be all these shows about like people's mansions and stuff.
Who cares about that?
I never liked that.
I say, I don't like success stories.
I like problem solving stories.
Success stories are not relatable.
Nobody wants to know about your success because your success is only exciting to you.
Everybody wants to know about your problems because your problems are their problems.
There aren't that many problems in the world.
Everybody is experiencing some version of the same few sets of problems.
How do we get through it?
What can we learn from each other by getting through it?
The more that you can identify that universal thing that's bringing your audience together, the better you're going to serve them.
