um i still think it's positive that he was there i've talked to the palestinians there again and you know they know what they're they're watching all this too um they're following it too there's still hope that like what he experienced will translate into a coherent worldview um that or a coherent policy set that is actually fully supportive of like palestinians and their right to resist and their right to you know freedom but it just hasn't happened yet and um hopefully that changes
It's actually not a new position for a Democrat to take, to be fully against the settlers.
J Street is famously against settler violence.
The same time that Ro Khanna was there, maybe a day later, a New York rabbi went and filmed a video talking about how it was his Zionism that led him to go there and speak out against the settlers, which I thought was an absolutely repulsive thing to do.
But the disconnect that happens is you see these people who are completely defenseless, like literally defenseless, up against people with machine guns, with the full support of the military, with the full support of the army.
And the intuitive thing to think should be like these people need to be protected.
The settlers who are tormenting them and the army that's behind them need to be fought back, right?
The question that Jeremy Scale was asking yesterday about, like, did the fighters in Gaza have a right to go after the military bases in Israel?
Like, that's a like that's not really that different from what we're talking about here.
Like, do you think that these people should just these Palestinians should just have to take it?
just get murdered and killed and starved and beaten and have their schools shut down and have their humanitarian agencies shut down.
And if they so much as throw a rock in return, they will either be shot dead or thrown in jail.
Do you think that's how it should be?
Or do you think that Palestinians should have a right to defend themselves?
And so I think that there's this sort of sleight of hand that happens with a lot of liberal Zionists, frankly, where it's easy for them to speak out against the settler violence, especially when it's against one of these like,
really vulnerable Bedouin communities where there's no armed resistance.
But you take it one step further, and it's like, what needs to happen for the Palestinians here to be able to have a chance to survive?
And the idea that they would possibly take up arms or that Israel shouldn't be able to do these things and have an iron dome to make sure they could never face a counterattack, that's just out of the question.
And I think it just shows that, like, even when you have somebody evolving on this issue, we're so far from any mainstream Democrat saying something like Palestinians have a right to defend themselves.
Palestinians have a right to have their own military.
