So historically, settlers have built their settlements and their illegal outposts in Area C, and that's where most of the worst attacks are, like Masafriyata, the place where no other land is filmed.
That's all Area C for the most part.
The thing is, they've pretty much swallowed up Area C, and they've moved into Areas B and A, which a couple of years ago would have been completely unheard of.
And so this is just one of many places across the West Bank, including in Janine, where there's a new outpost in Area A, where settlers have just entered there and are living there now.
And it is just a reflection of their complete impunity.
And so they've been living there since April.
Last July, a year ago, Saturday, a group of Palestinians from al-Masr al-Sharkia tried to return to their olive fields.
And they were set upon by over 60, maybe over 100 settlers who basically hunted them through their own land for over two hours while the IDF pepper sprayed and blocked anybody who tried to help them.
Two people were killed.
Mohammed Shalabi was shot dead.
And Saifullah Musallat was beaten to death.
So the trip on Saturday was with Saifullah's father, Kamel, to try to return to the olive fields, to the place where his son was killed.
And it was both...
um you know a tribute to his son he wanted to get to the place where his his son took his last breaths but also it was supposed to be a sort of um moment of defiance to you know show the settlers we're not afraid to go to our own land i should say you know it's you know as as your audience knows i'm sure
Things are about as bad as they've ever been in the West Bank right now.
I just got back from a month there.
I frankly lost count of how many attacks I personally saw, how many times I was assaulted myself.
But even saying that, we knew that this particular trip was a very dangerous proposition because the settlers now are literally living in the farmhouses.
that the Palestinians built on that mountain.
They treat it as if it is their land now.
