I I only bring this up to my colleagues because uh the type of federal local policing this program seeks to replicate
Um has already produced serious consequences.
In Memphis, four people were killed in officer-involved encounters connected to the Memphis Safe Task Force within approximately two months.
One was Tyreene Johnson, a 24-year-old father who worked in his family's construction business.
Another was Jonah Nil, a 25-year-old reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis when he was killed during an encounter involving a homeland security agent.
Uh the individual circumstances remain subject to investigation for four people losing their lives, I don't think can be treated as an administrative detail um for a grant.
And then national uh in Washington.

Uh her attorneys alleged she was assaulted while exercising her f uh free speech rights, and authorities have offered a different account regarding an earlier encounter.
I also want to talk about last year Operation Charlotte's Webb lasted only a matter of days, uh, but its specs were immediate.
Approximately 370 people were arrested in the Charlotte area over five days.
Children missed school because their parents feared family separation, workers stayed home, families avoided grocery stores, medical appointments and public spaces, um, and heavily armed federal agents operated in our neighborhoods and used unmassed vehicles.
Now I understand
This is a grant.
Memphis doesn't have the funding yet.
Um
And it's but it's a model, a pattern we're seeing when federal law enforcement agents are in our cities.
