But Revelation, it tells us that one day the night will end and it will be day again.
not because of the light of the sun or the lamps, but because God himself will be our light.
The light of the world will dwell with us again, giving us light forever.
Jesus' restoration of sight, his recreation, the restoration of this man's sight, it points forward to this coming day when Jesus would come again after the night to redeem, restore, recreate all things.
The light of the world will return.
But we remember Jesus's urgency, urgency that we, that he and the disciples accomplished Jesus's mission to teach the kingdom of God, to reveal God to the world before he dies and is resurrected from the dead and then returns to the Father for a time.
He brought the disciples into that mission.
He brought the man he delivered and healed into that mission.
Remember, Jesus tells him to wash in the pool of Siloam, a pool that means scent.
And then what does he do?
He goes out healed and tells his neighbors and families about Jesus.
He continues the work.
And it's the same call that we have as followers of Jesus in this time that Jesus refers to his night.
See, Jesus, he finished his work, but he sent us out with our own.
In Matthew 28, as Jesus is about to return to the Father, he says, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I've commanded you.
And surely I'm with you always to the very end of the age.
Go out, make disciples, tell them of what I revealed to you.
Continue my work of shedding light on the truth of who God is, of his kingdom.
Tell them I am alive and I will return.
Paul and Barnabas, speaking of their call and acts, say, for this is what the Lord has commanded us.
