Jesus who healed him, who delivered him, who washed him and gave him sight.

Now that's the story of the physical reality of what happened.

But let's think about the foundational truth that Jesus has just revealed to the disciples and then approach the story again.

So Jesus...

The one whom through all things was created begins by making mud.

Many say that this echoes creation where God formed man from the dust.

And here Jesus, he is stepping into the role of recreation.

The creator creates again.

Not something fully new, but in his creation of this mud, he restores what has been broken.

Specifically, he restores sight to a blind man.

In this time that Jesus is on earth, he's beginning the work of redemption.

And he does so by opening the eyes physically here.

but the spiritual eyes of man to the knowledge of God and God's plan to restore and reunite with his creation.

This recreating that Jesus does, that the creator does, it both illustrates Jesus's mission here on earth to be the light that reveals the knowledge of God for all people, but it also points forward to the work he will do when he returns.

When he establishes his kingdom physically, redeeming and recreating a new heaven and new earth, joining God's realm in our own, and bringing light to all people, Revelation 22.5 clearly says, and the night will be no more.

They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

So Jesus says, it's day now.

I'm here.

And while Jesus is here, the disciples and Jesus, they have a mission to fulfill, to bring sight to men so that they can clearly see who Jesus is, who God is, so they can have knowledge of God.

Jesus came to reveal the Father, to open eyes to spiritual truths that they had been blinded to.
