It was not running to win.
It was simply running to survive because that...
nothing was ever good enough, you know, and there was always something that needed to be better, you know, and whether it would be, you know, I'd win the races, but from such a far distance, you know, and it would then go to needing to win from a certain amount of distance to needing to
break this certain record to you know I looked over my shoulder too many times so that sense of that when I was running on the track down the finish line and finishing to the finish line I wasn't celebrating that I was winning I was I was simply running to survive and how I performed in each race would determine you know the level of punishment that I would receive and that level of of of
punishment again over time I started to realize that it just nothing was ever good enough that there was always something and that was where that control comes in but I continued to fight because that's all I knew because that's the only choice that I had because I had no one else around me to be able to step in and and save me basically
Yeah, I mean, you know, when you have had
you know, 14 years, 15 years of abuse.
Absolutely, I've had days and weeks and months and years of thinking about, you know, what it should have been.
You know, I think,
growing up as well and seeing other children as well, you know, that may have lost a race or come second and being celebrated, you know, still getting hugs, you know, from their family and a form of encouragement or this is maybe what you could do
better next time and and of course I craved that you know that's that's that's human that's human but I think you know now as an adult and I've I've started to reflect and go that's it just was it just was my life and there's just absolutely nothing that I could have done differently because no child ever ever
deserves to go through that and the only thing that i can change now is is how i how i frame it and how i help others so that they don't ever have to go through what what i went through um yeah absolutely which i imagine i mean that's that's a lifelong like journey yeah you're on a lifelong healing journey
Yeah, and that's exactly right, Georgie.
That's one of the most terrifying things that you get.
that gets reinforced into you is that, you know, you're not going to be believed, you know, no one will care, all those type of, you know, messages that, you know, were implanted.
But it was, it took absolutely everything for me to do that and on so many different levels.
You know, firstly, I was, you know, 19 years old.
You know, I had absolutely at that point really no support around me
I was terrified that I wouldn't be believed.
And I was also terrified every time I'd walk out of the police station because they were still in the community.
