And what makes it worse is that the food desert solution, it's politically easy.
You fund a supermarket, you get a ribbon cutting, a press conference, a grateful mayor, maybe the first lady.
Reforming the farm bill means taking on some of the most powerful agricultural lobbying interests in Washington.
Corn, soybean, and sugar producers.
The commodity crop associations.
the people who've been shaping agricultural policy for generations, they don't lose.
And then the general public who doesn't take this deep dive into research like we are just thinks, oh, food desert, build a store.
That's the solution, you know?
