So more than two million girls undergo FGM every single year, often before their fifth birthday, sometimes within just days of being born.

It definitely is.

And the reason the numbers keep climbing isn't because the rate is necessarily increasing everywhere.

It's because the the population in the places where FGM is most common are growing rapidly.

Like sub-Saharan Africa and parts of the Arab states, they're experiencing, you know, the fastest population growth on earth.

And by 2050, the number of girls born annually in those regions is projected to increase by over 60%.

So even if the rate of FGM slowly falls, the number of girls affected can still go up.

So in 2026, in this year, nearly four and a half million girls are at risk of undergoing FGM.

More than half of them are under five years old.

if things continue at the current pace, the numbers will rise and millions of girls will continue to be subjected to FGM.

The global target is elimination by twenty thirty, which that's approaching fast.

So to meet that target.

Progress needs to accelerate twenty seven times faster than it's currently moving.

That's a whole generation of girls.
