And then one day she called me and she was so sick.
She was getting radiation treatments and she hadn't had a bowel movement in two weeks.
This woman was suffering terribly.
And I came over and within literally two hours of my arriving in her house, she had said, I don't want this anymore.
And we called hospice in that day.
Within 24 hours, her life turned around.
She was a new person.
She was comfortable.
She was happy.
She knew she was dying, but she had this courage and this resilience that was so inspiring.
And you see when you watch the movie what an amazing and fun woman she was.
I could tell you story after story about this, but...
Yes.
And yet she was one of the lucky ones because she was still at home and she was able to stay at home.
She didn't get swept back onto that end-of-life conveyor belt, which is what we see all the time, right, where you get admitted to the emergency room and then they send you to the CT scanner and then they send you upstairs and then some complication happens and then the next thing you know you're in the ICU because you never had a conversation about the ventilator.
She luckily avoided that.
I don't know if she would have avoided it if I hadn't been there with her and gotten hospice arranged.
What got her there was that she was just unable to keep going.
She was in so much pain, unmedicated pain.
