It was horrible to watch, but so quickly alleviated.
And I wish people understood that palliative care is not hospice.
Hospice is also wonderful, but palliative care is about palliating people.
It's about making them feel better.
I think people are just afraid of it.
It's a marketing problem.
She was the one who said to me,
You know, I know how important it is, how you tell people how wonderful it is to die at home, and I am experiencing that.
And if you want to write about me or if you want to even, you know, show it on film just so it'll help somebody else, that's okay.
And so she gave this incredible, beautiful permission for us to document her experience.
And so we started filming, getting footage.
I thought maybe we'd use it as educational material or just to show people other approaches to living and dying.
And we filmed and filmed for about nine weeks while she was approaching the end and then she died.
And then a year after she died, I found this amazing filmmaker, Kevin Gordon, to come in and asked him to show me what we had.

And he put together this rough cut, and I saw the rough cut, and my jaw dropped because I realized that I was telling a totally different story than I had thought.
I thought it was a story about this amazing woman and a beautiful death, and it was a story about her husband.
It was not what I expected at all.
