Well, the thing about Rick and Bambi, when we were talking about sort of editing the film and trying to figure out how to tell the story, when we realized that there was a story to tell, my cousin, who's a filmmaker, said, you guys should think about that movie Love Story.
And I don't know if you remember this from the 70s, one of the 100 most romantic movies ever.
sort of a prototype of a love story.
Their story kind of unraveled that way.
It's these newlyweds, you know, they met, they were each other's second marriages.
They met on an adult dating service.
I don't know if that's the right exact term, but, and they started this life together and they were in love.
And Rick knew she had this cancer, but he didn't really know what it meant.
I've heard him say, I thought we'd have 20 years, you know.
And so when they realized that she was dying, it took him a while to come around to saying that he could imagine a hospice experience.
He sort of had this vision of them continuing to fight against all odds in this sort of romantic Hollywood version.
He didn't realize he was entering into a role as a caregiver.
He thought, well, I'm her husband.
I'll be here.
He did not understand, nor did I, nor did Bambi, the implications of this decision to change approach on
life.
Well, in the beginning of the film, there's this moment where they're getting settled into hospice.
And Bambi says, as long as he doesn't have to wipe my butt.
And he says, yeah, I'm not into that.
And I said, yeah, that's not your job.
