I mean, I think definitely better.
You know, we can talk about the problems and we can obsess over how awful some parts of social media are.
But broadly, just the idea that everybody has the ability to get any information they want at any time.
You can meet people from other cultures and societies and you can learn about them and you can.
It's just kind of an amazing thing.
There has to be something more nefarious going on.
Yeah, yeah, it was a house full of books.
We had the World Book Encyclopedia, which is an encyclopedia for children.
We had a couple of very old copies of Britannica.
And, you know, that was interesting.
Yeah, and I loved the encyclopedia as a kid.
Just that idea you could just anything you think of.
you can go and look it up of course anything you think of uh you know it was 26 books about this big which is wikipedia is a thousand times bigger now but yeah it was pretty comprehensive i thought we the kind of person that would treat the paper as kind of sacred and untouchable or did you mark it up scribble on the margin did you play around with them well it didn't
No, I would have gotten in big trouble had I put a pen, because this was, you know, back then, the encyclopedia was sort of an aspirational middle class kind of thing.
I once met a former editor-in-chief of Britannica who had some unkind things to say about Wikipedia as well, but one of the things he said to me was that when they were selling Britannica, they always understood they were doing two things.
They were selling...
a knowledge product, and furniture, because people would get these beautiful books and put them on the shelf.
So with a pen, no.
However, every year, World Book would send out the annual update.
And the annual update, you know, would say, well, my mother bought them.
