well, you're obviously a crazy lefty if you think that, or obviously you want to kill all trans people.

Like, hold on a minute.

I'm just, it's not really, that's not how most people are.

Most people are kind of in the middle on a lot of issues and they can see the nuance and go like, oh, actually, yeah, that's a hard issue.

And I'm not really sure where to put that.

Yeah, and that's the first step.

I love to tell this story of I was in Taipei, Taiwan.

This is many years ago now.

And I was there visiting, and it was a Wikipedia event going on.

And so the local community, they had one volunteer, a young man who –

was driving me around.

He drove me around to my media interviews and to the conference and so forth.

So I got to know him a little bit that day and we chatted.

And he said that he was raised in a very Taiwanese nationalist household.

And he had been taught from when he was a little kid that mainland Chinese people were like robots.

They had been brainwashed and they were wrong about everything.

And then he started working in Chinese language Wikipedia, which at that time was open in China and everywhere.

And he said,

I've made some friends in mainland China.

I never thought that would happen.
