Why didn't you fill in the blank with no attention to walking in the door and hugging the 11 year old first and saying, thank God you stepped up.
I knew I could count on you.
Mm-hmm.
Right?
Yeah.
I've had situations where I had to leave.
You know what?
I'll tell you the other night.
This happened the other night.
I have a 15-year-old who's a couple of years older than you were and a 9-year-old.
And my wife came in at 11 o'clock and said, I got to go to the ER right now.
This is just a month ago.
I left a note for both of them, and I drove my wife to the ER.
And when I got home, the first thing I did was not say, oh my gosh, why are there clothes on the floor?
The first thing I did, and again, I'm not a perfect parent.
The first thing I did was I walked in, I hugged my son, I hugged my daughter and said, thank you guys for stepping up.
You get what I'm saying?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
And why am I pointing back to all of this stuff?
You're not dealing with guilt, you're dealing with shame.
